The Power of Video

Rarely is a new technology so disruptive that it, in and of itself, creates a new industry. More often than not, it is the application of a new technology to an existing industry that creates the biggest waves (think wireless internet access as applied to cell phones).
This is definitely the case with Envysion, a Colorado Fund portfolio company. Envysion is one of the leaders in what is quickly becoming defined as the MVaaS space. MVaaS stands for managed video as a service, and stems from the application of a web based software platform to the video surveillance industry. The result is that multi-unit retailers can now manage distributed video from multiple locations without the cost of a big in-house IT implementation or the hassle of ongoing support and maintenance. In addition, the software provides several utilities including search capabilities, point of sales integration, and widespread desktop access to the video across an organization. It is these utilities that have expanded video surveillance from a security feature into a powerful management tool. Customers who implement Envyision show up to 10% to 15% bottom line improvement at the unit level. That’s disruption.
The disruption being created by Envysion and others in the space is what caused IMS Research to name MVaaS the top video trend for 2010. This is being born out at Envyision, where they just announced yesterday that they have been selected by Einstein Noah Restaurant Group (BAGL) as their exclusive video services provider. Congratulations to the Envysion team.
